DJ Fisherman

Born Sifiso Mjoli, DJ Fisherman was born KwaNdengezi, west of Durban. Sifiso went to school in the area and when in High School he developed an interest in House Music after hearing so much good music at the time. Julien Jabre’s “Jungle” song was the one that took Fisherman in to the music. At the time Frankie Knuckles, Kenny Dope, Gregory, Robbiera and of course Louis Vega were all producing hot house music which all inspired Fisherman just to be like them on day.

DJ Fisherman and Danger

He learned to deejay in the year 2002 and started playing around the area in taverns and shows within the township. From there he learned to produce music in his bedroom at home inspired by all the good producers named above. He gave himself time to master Fruity Loops and did his first track “Mhlabe”. That track was never released but it became popular in the province (KwaZulu-Natal). That track gave him popularity as people wanted to know who had done the track.

It was in the year 2006 when he got a call from Durban’s Finest (DJ’s Tira and Sox). The two had heard his underground track; they wanted Fisherman (then DJ Fhiso) to work with him on their project and also for him to join the stable (Afrotainment) as well. From there he did a track (House Animation) which was released international by Franck Roger at Real Tone Records. The same album featured well respected South African producers Black Coffee and DJ Cleo. That song was also released locally on DJ Cndo’s Volume 1 in 2007.

From there he did the hit song “Uyoysholo Wena” by Durban’s Finest featuring Big NUZ which marked him in the industry. He did three other tracks on the same album. In 2008 he worked with Big NUZ on their 2nd Round album and 2009 3rd round Undisputed which has gave Afrotainment 1st platinum. The song “Umlilo”; which he did with Big NUZ was voted song of the year for 2010 in the MTN South African Music Awards.DJ Fisherman in the studio

He has since released his debut album “Fish Tank” in May 2010 and the song “Happy Song” has been receiving lot of airplay and people responding well to his work. He has also been making his mark as a DJ at various locations in South Africa and has been rocking places like Swaziland, Namibia and Botswana. On his album DJ Fisherman worked with the legend Nana Coyote and also Bucie of “Turn me on” and “Superman” hits to deliver a soulful opening to the album. Where there is a DJ Tira & Big Nuz collabo there bound to be a hit, listen to the “Happy Song” and you will confirm Afrotainment is not about to stop delivering nothing but hits to South African dance scene.

Other tracks to look out for on the album includes “The Urban Zulu” by Black Coffee, “Amerido Remix” by Built From Scratch and “It Feels Like” by Tira f/t Joocy. DJ Fisherman is one of the best producers in the country and he proves it on his debut album.
