DJ Sox

DJ Sox also known as Mbusi Sokhela was born on the 14th of September, 1977 in KwaZulu-Natal. He has acquired a reputation of being one of South Africa’s premiere hit-delivering DJ’s, both on his live sets as well as on albums he has released before as Durban’s Finest with his former partner DJ Tira.

Dj Sox first entered the scene as a club DJ in Durban, where he used to organise gigs and parties before he finally met Tira, whom he partnered with because they were booked together most of the time. They called themselves Durban’s Finest and went on a mission to evolve the Durban scene from being the ‘quiet’ scene it initially was, to making it one of the most happening party places in the country.

He went on to plan and organise some of the most happening parties, which included the Metro FM Black Film Festival, YFM Durban Invasion, Dennis Ferrer Live In Durban Concert Gig, Mary J Blidge After party and Vodacom Durban July, in addition to having played at and rocked clubs and venues across the country.

His place is set not only on the local map, but internationally as well, and he has undoubtedly built the reputation. As if that was not enough he also made a break into radio and worked for Durban-based Gagasi FM, where he was entertaining listeners with the hottest house tracks before he finally moved to Ukhozi FM.

His discography is also quite remarkable as well; having released his first project with his partner DJ Tira titled ‘Durban’s Finest Volume One’ released in 2003 through Sheer House. The album was a nationwide critically acclaimed success; then he went on to release ‘Volume Two’ in 2004, which went gold, and finally ‘Volume 3’ in 2005.

Dj Sox and Tira’s ‘Volume 3’ album crossed the gold mark, of which the two latter versions also won awards for best dance compilation on the Metro FM Awards for the two consecutive years 2004, and 2005 respectively.

Thereafter he and DJ Tira split and Dj Sox took a break from the scene, while quietly developing and making preparations for his solo comeback.
